Prepares countries for the crisis Whenever there is an outbreak of the virus, WHO prepares the countries to take initiatives to tackle the virus; for the COVID-19 pandemic, it has issued a Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan. The plan states the necessary actions that the countries should take and the resources they will need to execute the plan. WHO has 150 country offices around the world, including Canada, that closely monitor these actions. They set up a Solidarity Response Fund to make sure the patients get all the care they need to fight the virus. It also ensures that the frontline workers in Canada and elsewhere get the necessary resources. WHO also takes initiatives to accelerate the research works needed to develop a vaccine for the virus. Providing accurate information When a pandemic outbreaks, people get nervous. A lot of rumour is spread about the new virus. WHO ensures that people get all the right information about the virus. WHO takes feedback from expert health professionals before presenting any information about the virus. It provides accurate and timely information about the current condition of the virus and advises on how to prevent it. Giving resources to the frontline workers The WHO ensures that the frontline workers get all the resources they need to fight the virus. During this pandemic, personal protective equipment was given to 133 countries, including Canada. Millions of diagnostic tests were dispatched. It takes steps to ensure that the private sector accelerates the production and distribution of medical supplies. Training health workers WHO takes steps to train the health workers in Canada and other countries via the OpenWHO platform. The frontline workers got valuable knowledge about fighting the COVID-19 virus. This ensures that the frontline workers can give the best service to the patients. WHO ensures that the country offices are disseminating information about the virus and the action plan properly. Reduce deforestation The number of cases of animal-borne viruses is expected to grow over the next decade. One of the major reasons for it is deforestation. Agricultural expansion and development are the main causes of this disease. As humans get deeper into the forest that was undisturbed before, they are coming more into contact with the animals and diseases. This is called ‘virus spill over’, and it can happen if someone goes hunting or shops at a wild animal or fish market. So, reducing deforestation can prevent the spread of animal-borne viruses. Reduce the wildlife trade Markets where wild animals are sold have been the origin of COVID-19, SARS, and other virus outbreaks. There is high demand for wild animal delicacies and the exotic pet industry. Every year the global wildlife trade results in US$23 billion. This money comes at the expense of public health. During the wild animal trade, one species come in contact with another, and diseases start spreading. When these animals are traded to other countries, the diseases turn into a pandemic. China has already announced a ban on wildlife trade and consumption. Early virus detection More research must be done to detect the viruses early. COVID-19 started spreading in November 2019 in China. But the first case was detected on December 31, 2019. If the virus can be detected early, better precautions can be taken to stop the spread of the virus. If these steps can be taken there, then there may not be any pandemics in the future. Even if there is, government and other associations will be able to handle them in a better way without incurring so much cost and losing so many lives. So, we must stop cutting trees to make roads and buildings, not buy or consume wild animals and focus on more research works to prevent a further pandemic....

Self-monitoring and quarantine The CPHA advised people to self-monitor for the symptoms of COVID-19. If the symptoms develop, then they need to isolate themselves at home and get tested for the virus. At the same time, they should seek medical attention. Physical distancing As the coronavirus gets transmitted by respiratory droplets, physical distancing is necessary. Any kind of social gathering or direct contact between people who are not living in the same household must be avoided. Use masks all the time The use of the mask is mandatory to prevent the spreading of the virus. The mask must be worn properly, covering both the nose and mouth so that the virus cannot get inside the body. Use of respirators The use of respirators must only be limited to those who need them. A proper test must be conducted to ensure that the person needs it. Someone who is trained to use the respirators must fit them for the patient. Hand hygiene Everyone must wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds at least. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer must be used when soap is not available to prevent the spreading of the virus. Respiratory etiquette Care must be taken when coughing, talking, or sneezing. Wearing a mask can all the time and coughing or sneezing into tissue is recommended. The tissues must be disposed of immediately after use. Cleaning and disinfection All the surfaces that are touched often must be cleaned and disinfected regularly. The virus can survive in the environment for several hours and even days. Cleaning can get rid of the virus. The CPHA had taken community-level measures as well to reduce the spread of the virus. With their initiatives and awareness programs, it has been possible to control the spread of the virus to some extent....
